Van Gaal hails Rooney after United win pre-season tournament

LVG-RooneyLouis van Gaal has singled out Wayne Rooney for praise, after the striker captained United to a 3-1 wn over Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup.

Steven Gerrard put Liverpool ahead with a first-half penalty, before Rooney levelled from a rebound. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard also scored for the Red Devils, to complete the comeback.

Van Gaal hailed his skipper for the night, who was awarded Player of the Tournament, but warned that the real deal begins against Swansea.
